English Muffin Pizza Buns
English Muffin Pizza Buns often came to the rescue supper time when the boys were young. After a long day at work this easy meal was on the table in about 30 minutes and everyone was happy. I often served them with fries or soup or even a big fruit salad. This is a sure hit with all age groups and it is easy to tailor them to your family's tastes.
Don't worry if you don't have English muffins on hand as hamburger buns will work as well. Even hot dog buns will work and you can call them pizza subs. In a pinch I've even made them on thick slices of bread but the English muffins, in my opinion, make the best pizza buns because they are closer to the chewy crust of a real pan pizza.
I made these today for our dinner and we each had two halves along with a few fried potatoes and a garden salad. They were delicious and we both went back for the third half.
Everyone seems to like Pizza Buns. I've made them for parties and they've been gobbled up in record time with people, both young and old, coming back for more.
Printable recipe at end of post.
English Muffin Pizza Buns
- 6 English Muffins, split (You may also use sturdy hamburger buns.)
- 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- ¾ cup pizza or pasta sauce
- Pinch or two of seasoning (Italian, basil, oregano, etc.), optional
- 2 or 3 add-ins from the list below
Extras to add in:
- 3 tablespoons diced sweet peppers
- 3 tablespoons sliced black or green olives
- 3 tablespoons sliced green onions or chopped yellow onion
- 3 tablespoons chopped cooked mushrooms
- 3 tablespoons well drained crushed or diced pineapple
- 3 tablespoons chopped veggie pepperoni/salami/bacon, etc
- Any other pizza topping you may enjoy
How to make it:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. For easy clean up, line baking sheet with parchment paper.
Lay the split muffins, cut side up, on parchment lined baking sheet; lay aside until needed.
Mix shredded cheese and pizza sauce together along with any add-ins you may desire. You may need a little more sauce depending on how densely you packed the cheese in the measuring cup.
Divide the mixture between the 12 muffin halves and spread close to the edge of each bun half.
Bake in the preheated oven 10-12 minutes or until the cheese is bubbling. Remove from oven and let sit a few minutes before serving.
Makes 4-6 servings of 2 or 3 halves per person.
Split the English Muffins and lay them cut side up on the parchment paper lined baking sheet. I made half the recipe for Don and me. We had 3 halves each.
Place the cheese and sauce in a bowl along with any add-ins you may be using. Today we had mixed red and green peppers, black olives and chopped onion. I also added some dried basil to the mix.
I baked these for 10 minutes but put them back in the oven for another two as I wanted just a wee bit of browning on the cheese.
